He was a black boy, taste of candy-apple on his tongue; She was a white girl, side-by-side they stood in love so young; They bought the ticket for the ride and stepped into the car; Crashing through seven doors, they climbed the hill into the deepest dark! Oh! In the night Can you see, see the light? In the dark, hold me tight And we’ll see, it’s alright! In spite of the snakes and skeletons that rattle in the dark; In spite of the sign that warned of swift removal from the park; They left the track and found a place behind a scene of gore And traded passions in the halls of this Phantasmagoria! Oh! In the night Can you see, see the light? In the dark, hold me tight And we’ll see, it’s alright! Adam and Eve were walking; They were alone and talking, Watching a star, so small, Burning beyond the wall. And it was a lovely garden, But Daddy was always watching, Weighing the bad and good; He never understood; Adam and Eve were walking; They were alone and talking: In the glade, There was an Apple.

Runaways 07:28
There’s so much I want to see so take my hand and run away with me right through the gatekeepers into the verdant black. They can wave that fiery sword — but baby we’re not going back! Can you hear it sighing in the trees, beyond these houses and sanctuaries? We tasted the fruit, all dripping down, that juice was sensual. Now there’s something out there that I wanna know! Be my shelter and I’ll be your light We don’t need no guide Let our hearts decide, oh And if judgement fall on where we lie, let it fall like feathers, ‘cuz here together We stand. So let ’em cry Just let them weep, baby They talk of angels falling, but their own paths are steep. And now they’re staring as if they’re not wearing mortal skin! But there’s something beyond here That I wanna know! Be my shelter and I’ll be your light We don’t need no guide Let our hearts decide, oh And if judgement fall on where we lie, let it fall like feathers, ‘cuz here together We stand. (Born in succession: Love and Transgression. Born in transgression: Love is succession.)

Bang bang go the drum marking a heart’s time beneath the morning sun climbing a bare sky step to the beat I’m moving feet got to get me somewhere Beyond the Eastern rise upstreet and shimmering my destination lies I know it’s got to be cuz I wear the miles I take while it lingers farther away And I’m tired of breakin’ down on the road less taken How many hills to climb now? And if I stop, I fall, carve seven words on my stone: I always thought I’d find my way Restless I pace around her patience wearing thin tie me to solid ground, turn round I’m gone again It’s every time I come home, can’t keep from pushing away From reaches just beyond strange music speaks to me sweet as a siren-song, cruel as a jagged reef Always so close ’til I find it’s ever-farther away And I’m tired of breakin’ down on the road less taken How many hills to climb now? And if I stop, I fall, carve seven words on my stone: I always thought I’d find my way

It's always something -- It never fails! Waiting to catch you -- With teeth and nails! Come out of nowhere -- Ten Times Your Size! This alligator -- Eat you alive! Just when you thought you were beyond it and the coast is clear It sets upon you and it makes you want to disappear! Wipe those tears away! They got no use at all! The weakness you betray Is the name they're sure to call, So watch those words you say And stand up straight and tall And wipe those tears away! It always follows you around You can't escape it -- It's written down. Come like a postcard -- Right to your door! Ain't even no surprise no more! Well Across the town could have been anyone but now it's here It's such a mess well I suggest you better listen here: Wipe those tears away! They got no use at all! The weakness you betray Is the name they're sure to call, So watch those words you say And stand up straight and tall And wipe those tears away!

I Know 05:05
Hold your tongue don’t let those words come out your mouth Hold on to those thoughts that lay in your head my child And I know how hard it is I know how hard it is I know that you wanna run but you’re bound here I know that it’s hard but you can’t say a thing Stand by steady your arm you must take aim Focus on the task at hand you must pull the trigger And I know how hard it is I know how hard it is I know that you wanna run but you’re bound here I know that it’s hard but you can’t say a thing

Vices 02:32
I may sit quiet quietly here but that doesn’t mean I know not what you do over there. I let my thoughts go wander through the shadows where the imps and the demons play where your poisons are grown and made. You will see what you see and believe what you must How you react about today will determine your destiny. Slyly, silently, we slip about so secretly Wily and conniving We’ll poison and distort everything. The promises you may have made, We’ll take their importance away. We poison minds and destroy weak lives. We are the liars. You will see what you see and believe what you must How you react about today will determine your destiny. You will see what you see and believe what you must How you react about today will determine your destiny.

Long History 03:58
Time until you’re laid to rest Holding out Another knows best! So afraid I’ll be over, oh, if I try! Fall asleep, kiss another goodbye. You got a long history of being what you are. Don’t have to wonder why, Ain’t no river there to cry. Every word you sing, It’s the same old song and it ring so true, ‘cuz it’s what you are. All the people down in Hell watch you tend your prison cell. Aye, the key… is it all of your own design? Weight of the world, or the weight of your mind? You got a long history of being what you are. Walk any way you want you’ll never be what you are not. Wear the Velvet Chic or the Feathered Tar, Gonna show right through ‘Cuz it’s what you are.

Never a choice provided Straight were the stalks where crooked I grew Taught of the evils of my way. Sharp like a bird-call — Sweet is the ache I sink below A river of stones I hide away becomes a lake… Please tell me how I’ll make it out though beaten and I’m broken — My long escape This landlocked state can’t hold me in I flood my banks! Secrets, they move so swiftly over these undulating hills just like the whispers of the leaves. Fences of barbed-wire crossing my heart lay claim to the land leaving no country free to roam. You take my home… Please tell me how I’ll make it out though beaten and I’m broken — My long escape This landlocked state can’t hold me in I flood my banks!

Come one-by-one, in ribbons they’re paired and bound leaving the cynic tied to his time in solitary, Each lonely night whisperin’ “You’re not as young as you been.” Each season’s invitations arrive in envelopes of white with a script so nice and nearly illegible! And so, it comes to haunt me again: That piece I know I’m missing. In black-and-white I stand– these confining colors never could be mine, rigid their design. Expectation’s friend, love be in your favor, and may it long be true when you say I do / I do. Come two-by-two, they’re marching in common-time held forth before the altar of pride and ceremony Already, pictures unfold of some life that I’ll never know. In black-and-white I stand– these confining colors never could be mine, rigid their design. Expectation’s friend, love be in your favor, and may it long be true when you say I do / I–

We Fall 04:02
Stealing all the gold from the sun leaving only the red-orange Wasting once again the entire day Face emoting rent apathy Happily we fall to our doom below No one would care even if they’re told… It’s hard to cope with an ordinary day Traffic, job, and wife get to me All I want is to blow away my mind! If I don’t have to think, I’ll be fine. And happily we fall to our doom below. No one would care even if they’re told, “You listen to much to the TV and radio,” We’re too drunk and stoned stuck in our excuses.

B: I will lead you L: And I will follow L: Don’t fly away! B: Just keep me in sight. B: I promise you heaven. L: Is all of it for me? B: No, you can bring your friends along. Both: Just wait until they see! B: It’s not much further. L: I’ve gathered my friends. B: Try and keep up! L: I can’t wait, my friend! B: Here comes your heaven! L: It looks just like the sea! B: So go ahead and dive in… L: Will it set us free? / B: Let it set you free!
14.
When your hands are small and your body slight And you're just a frag-a-ment of a mel-o-dee, oh And your stars align but you can't take flight, You're not a little bit like me! And I am a captain of the universe, one tiny boat in the sea No port of call, no direction at all! Millions have gone before me! When I'm battle-scarred, and when my hands are tired, take me home. Vessel be bound in a tourniquet, send me that wave of relief! Damage be done -- but we live through this one! Lifetimes have flashed before me! May our love be long, but when I'm dead and gone -- Let me rot.
15.
–And you now remember! You were 12 years old When you first heard it calling Like a long steam-train, in the late-late night When the leaves started falling And the softness of her skin, when you held her close, Said you’d be with her always Then the frost blew in, and what Heaven knows Can’t help heal your heartache! Don’t matter which way you run Something wicked this way comes Bodies, they undress for bed Words whispered by lips of red They’re watching you through the fence The veil of your innocence The silk, from the spider, spun Something wicked this way comes! Were you all alone? Was it on a Sunday? The sound of you crying Through the bedroom door, where the growups do Their living and dying; The body, the bread, the blood in the cup, The faith and the maker, And the guilt you’ll feel, for the wordless joy Of animal nature! Don’t matter which way you run Something wicked this way comes Bodies, they undress for bed Words whispered by lips of red They’re watching you through the fence The veil of your innocence The silk, from the spider, spun Something wicked this way comes!

about

We offer to you this straightforward stereo recording of a lively set we played on November 9, 2019, at Whittier Bar in Tulsa. We were opening for some friends of ours from Austin, and we were excited because we were debuting a new song, Runaways. In fact, there are seven tunes here which you won't find on either of our previous albums. The energy was tight, fun, and raucous.

The lineup was:
Eric Hartley - gtr/vox
Ryan "Mazus" Dannar - gtr/vox
Matt Mayo - bass
Jason Booze - drums

The recording device was a Zoom H4n stereo recorder, which sat just a few feet back from the band. The vocals sound a bit airy because you're hearing them through the P.A. (as someone in the club would have) instead of direct-in.

That is to say, we're aware of the shortcomings of this presentation -- it's definitely not a "professional live album" -- but we still think it sounds pretty good, especially after we did some light mastering.

Have a listen for free. If you like it, help us out by purchasing a download for $5. That's basically the door-charge, right?
